Everyone knows Halloween is a very popular American and British holiday, celebrated on 31st October, but
do you know the origin of this feast? Well, it goes back to 4000 years ago, when in Ireland lived a people called Celts.
On this day Celts celebrated the end of summer and the arrival of winter. They made big fires to light the night and to warm themselves.
They also believed that fire attracted devil, witches and the spirits of dead people who came out of their tomb during the night. When the Christians arrived in Britain they introduced their religious feasts. 1st November is the day of All Saints (All Hallows' day in English) so the evening of 31st October is called All Hallows' Eve or HALLOWEEN.
